WGTE to air "Boy Scouts of Harlem 759" in August
The film is a charming and gentle exploration of how the Boy Scouts - along with two weeks at a magnificent summer scout camp -- can change a group of boys from Harlem into young men. Through these boys' eyes, we see camaraderie, structure, and personal growth in a world that is quite removed from their homes in Harlem.
The viewing dates & times can be found here.

Information on Cub Scout Leader trainings, BALOO training, LNT Workshop, LNT Trainer Course, Wilderness First Aid/CPR training and NYLT being offered over the next year have been added to the Training page.

Inventing Merit Badge Returns
One of the merit badges from the BSA's 100-year history was the similarly named Invention merit badge. The badge was discontinued in 1915 after only 10 boys had earned it. Even though an official merit badge recognizing invention has been dormant for 95 years, the idea of innovation has been fully alive in the Scouting program over the past century.  A list of the current requirements can be found here.

It's that time of year again when all Merit Badge Counselors should be receiving a copy of the letter for re-registering as Merit Badge Counselors. PLEASE make sure your unit’s Counselors have received a copy and send in their updates/re-registration to Karen before the deadline.  A copy of the letter can be found here.
Remember that all MB counselors must be up to date on Youth Protection training
.

Training Update:

Beginning January 1, 2011, every direct-contact leader will need to be trained for their position.  In preparation for this requirement, the Training Committee asks that all units verify with Karen Krieger at the Scout Office that their leaders are correctly registered in their current position.  This will be vital for accurately tracking that they have completed training for their position. Please note that a new Leader Application must be filled out if you are changing positions within a unit or joining / transferring to a new unit.  There is no additional charge for changing positions in the same unit or joining a second unit (as long as you stay registered in the primary unit, just write “multiple in the corner of the app).  There is a $1.00 transfer fee for switching units.
